December 2024 LNG Vessel Collision: Howe Sound

 “Authorities confirmed the crash, which took place in Howe Sound, approximately seven kilometers southwest of Squamish….

This incident serves as a reminder of the potential risks associated with marine operations, especially in busy project areas like the Woodfibre LNG site.

“Transportation Safety Board investigating vessel collision at Squamish LNG project” …

A collision occurred between two marine vessels working on the Squamish LNG project on Dec. 18…

The collision caused a vessel that was carrying fuel to sink to a depth of approximately 200 metres. 

A TSB spokesperson said there was a hydrocarbon sheen observed and that booms were deployed….

The Woodfibre LNG site is located approximately seven kilometres southwest of downtown Squamish, on the west side of Howe Sound.” (emphasis added)
